What is a DECA Advisor?

As a DECA advisor, you have access to a powerful array of tools that can transform your classroom. By integrating DECA’s resources into your curriculum, you bring learning to life, preparing students for college and careers.

Successful advisors leverage DECA’s instructional activities to apply knowledge, connect with business, and inspire students through competition.

Roles and Responsibilites

As a DECA advisor, many of your responsibilities overlap with your role as an educator, including:

  • Aligning curriculum with national standards.

  • Using DECA’s programs to teach key career and academic skills.

  • Creating a collaborative learning environment that fosters leadership.

  • Supporting career preparation and goal setting.

  • Involving business leaders in advisory roles and integrating their expertise.

  • Offering students business-based opportunities like internships and projects.

  • Incorporating project management into the curriculum to build leadership and management skills.

  • Advocating for DECA by communicating its benefits to counselors and administrators.

Career Clusters

DECA offers several areas to participate. And as an advisor, you can have your club choose which cluster or allow students to explore areas of interest. Members can choose to compete in different clusters, they may choose one area for a Regional competition and then choose another for States and Nationals. DECA covers all areas of business and can provide a well rounded opportunity to members to learn about all areas of business during their time in DECA. To the right is the career cluster breakdown.
